Hi, I'm Kevin Urban

My Motivation

I like taking a problem from “we should probably solve this” to something people can use and hopefully like to use. Starting from initial concepts, figuring out the details along the way, trying to streamline and simplify things, I care about the product, the tech, and the code.

My professional software engineering career started in 2014, although I studied Computer Science for 5 years before that and sparked my initial passion by dabbling in programming in high school.

The term “Full Stack“ for me goes beyond frontend or backend technologies, covering the whole software development process. Whether it's trying to find the best and simplest architectural abstraction, enabling my team to ship more consistently, or talking to users to find out how the next feature can improve their workflow best, the beauty of software engineering lies in the sum of its parts.

And even when it doesn't fit into my job, I still like trying out new technology and keeping an eye on new developments simply because I find it interesting. Some evidence is on this page, showcasing some projects I chose to make public.

Currently

Most recently, I was a Senior Full Stack Engineer at the Language AI Company DeepL, where I worked on the internal language data platform and had a brief gig in its push for voice.

After the recent layoffs, I'm currently looking for a new role, ideally somewhere I can work on a project end to end and have meaningful impact.
